It's that time of year - whether you like it or not - the holidays. It is strange for me because none of my kiddos will be at my house this year. We will all be together for the new year (pictures here we come)
I will have all my brothers and their families with me on Christmas Day and I look forward to being with them.....

WGEN....

Several months ago I decided to look into meeting new people. When your kids are young and active - you tend to have lots of friends. Then your kids grow up, get married, move away - and those "friends" - seem to drift away. Oh, you have the loyal ones, the ones that stick by your side - no matter what - but for the most part - friends change through out your life time.

So I looked into a website called "Meet-Up"...it puts you in touch with many organizations, clubs, events, etc. of the kind of peeps you want to hang with. I found the "Weatherford Girlfriends and Empty Nesters."......just what I needed. Local gals in the same "boat" as me. I attended my first meeting about 2 months ago. They meet at a local restaurant and enjoyed dinner together. I was hooked.

This past week/weekend they had 2 events and I attended both and had a blast. These girls are so fun and all have similar lifestyles. Some are divorced, widowed, stay at home, retired, working..but all have a common thread of wanting to make new friends. The whole group is 70+ strong. For the most part tho, only about 10-15 attend on a regular basis.

Last Thursday we had our Christmas party at the winery that I wrote about on an earlier blog - The Lightcatcher. We enjoyed some wine tasting, some great food, lots of laughs and a gift exchange.

This past Sunday, Diane - the original organizer - hosted a cookie exchange in her home. I haven't been to a cookie exchange in years and this proved to be a blast. I made my Lemon Cake Cookies. We had quiet the variety. Gingersnaps, applesauce, snickerdoodles, peanut butter, potato chip, and chocolate pecan. We had apple cider, coffee and tea. The weather had turned cool on Sunday - so it made for a perfect setting.

What did you do this weekend?
Happy Mondy Ya'll
LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET SNOW…..

I love, love, love SNOWMEN, SNOWMAN, SNOWPEOPLE.....SNOW. PERIOD.

In Texas, howver, it is rare - and more often comes in the form of

sheets of ice that cause havoc on it's people. We don't know how to

drive in it, when forecasted, we go to the store and stockpile

food/water to last at the minimum - a month !

Nonetheless.....Christmas and winter mean snow. I am hoping when

we visit Corey to ring in the new year - it will be snowing....

I collect snowmen and love to display them during the holidays. I

might even leave them up thru January....

So I wanted to know where the first snowman came from and

according to the Wiki - this is what it says..

This article is about the sculptures made of snow. For other uses, see Snowman (disambiguation).

A three-ball Snowman with tree branch arms

A snowman is an anthropomorphic snow sculpture. They are customarily built as part of a family project in celebration of winter. In some cases, participants in winter festivals will build large numbers of snowmen. Because a snowman is situation-specific, it is a good example of popular installation art.
Typical snowmen feature three large snowballs, and some additional accoutrements for facial and other features. Common accessories include branches for arms and a rudimentary smiley face; a carrot can stand in for a nose. Human clothing, such as hat or scarf may even be included. Low-cost and availability are an issue, since snowmen are usually in a cold and/or wet environment, and abandoned to the elements once completed. Melting is a common end-of-life scenario for most snowmen.

These are my snow people......

Merry Christmas Ya'll !!

DECEMBER....

It is freakin’ December  and yet this past weekend it was 85 degrees!! But spite that – we made our first Christmas Party. Sasha and Jerry actually met at our house – about 7 years ago – and since have married and have the cutest little boy, Rylan!! They hosted the party and the theme was that you had to dress as a character from your favorite Christmas movie!! Now me, I love all Christmas movies – but decided on the Christmas Story. I love that lamp in the movie – so I went as the lamp and Wheatie was my box!!

There was quiet the variety and no duplicates.....We had Christmas Vacation, ELF, Scrooge, Rudolph, a snowman, bad Santa, Santa's elves. Then we had those that didn't dress up at ALL - BAH HUMBUG!!

I will just let you gander at the pics.......
